Disclosure: This giveaway prize is provided by Familiar. I was not compensated for this post, I genuinely love using Familiar, and all opinions are my own.

“Can you send me more pictures of the children, please?”

“Okay, Mom. I’ll do that. After I put the kids to bed tonight.”

{two weeks later}

“Did you email me the pictures?”

“Er, not yet. I need to pick the good ones, resize them, then send them to you in batches. There are A LOT, Mom.”

I’ve had this conversation with my mother more than once (okay, practically every month since I’ve had my first son, but who’s counting?). For the first year or so, I managed to update my parents, who live a few hours away, with monthly pictures. My updates have been sporadic since then, because curating pictures to be emailed is more time consuming than cleaning the bathroom with a toothbrush (I imagine. Not that I’ve ever tried).

Imagine how thrilled I was when I was first introduced to Familiar.

In their own words, “Familiar turns every screen into a 21st century photo frame directly connected to family and friends. With Familiar, the best and cherished memories are displayed on the screens of loved ones into a customized channel. It’s simple: capture a moment and send it directly to the screens of your private network. Any device’s ‘down time’ is a huge untapped opportunity to enjoy cherished photos and videos and Familiar allows you to do just that.”

Familiar is also optimized for Tablets. What this means is, you can turn your tablet into a digital picture frame when it’s idle. Rather than putting away a tablet when not in use (like when it’s being charged), you can watch a fun slideshow on your tablet-now-21st-century-digital-photo-frame.

Basically, it’s like your personalized screensaver. Or in my mother’s case, HER personalized screensaver of stitched-together photos and videos of her grandchildren. Yes, video. It’s the first ever. Like ‘no-one-has-ever-done-this-before’ ever. All you have to do is upload your photos, add your contacts’ email addresses, and voila!

Other nifty features include automatic personalization: Familiar learns what photos and videos you like more, whether they came from you, or your friends and family, and they personalize your photo frame for you. And for you bloggers and social media fans, Familiar offers integration with the most popular photo & video services such as Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, and Google’s Picasa.

Watch the video below to see Familiar in action and then download on Google Play or iTunes.

How do you share photos with your friends and family?

My post about time and how I need to be friends with it again is published at Mamalode. I couldn’t be more thrilled. Would love some visits there, if you have a few minutes. Thank you!
